Family Burden and Mental Health Service Need of the Chronic Mentally Ill¡¯s Care-Takers

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives£ºThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the family burden, service need and correlation between them in care givers of the mentally ill for planning of community mental health system in one community.
Methods£ºFamily Burden Interview Schedule and Service need scale for mental health were administrated to 113 subjects who had psychiatric patients in their family. One hundred and thirteen persons who had psychiatric patients in their families were interviewed using Family Burden Interview Schedule and Service need scale for mental health.
Results£º 1) In the rate of family burden, worry(98.2%) was highest, and followed by objective burden of activities of daily
life(66.4%). 2) In the rate of service need for mental health, emergency and crisis intervention was 92.0%, social skill training was 84.0%. 3) In correlation between family burden and service need for mental health, worry was significantly correlated with many mental health services and day care center, medication management, social skill training, day living skill training were significantly correlated with more than five family burdens.
Conclusion£ºEmergency and crisis intervention, day care center, medication management, social skill training, daily living skill training were evaluated as important programs for planning of community mental health system in Naju city.
